Health and Wellness Inspired
Gift Guide 2019
It’s early December and aside from winter approaching, colder climates (if you’re in the Northern Hemisphere), and the end of the year, it means it’s the gift giving season! There are very few things that I will readily admit that I am good at and they are as follows: cleaning/organizing, packing, baking up a mean cookie (both healthy and regular), and GIFT GIVING!
So here’s my round up of my favorite products of the year inspired by healthy living and wellness.
* denotes a gift under $25!
A Few of My Favorites
Vitruvi Stone Essential Oil Diffuser ($119) – I’m a bit of minimalist and always thought something like this as superfluous, but after I inherited one from a co-worker and loved it in my office, I decided to invest in one for our home. This handmade piece is so pretty on my bedside table, has two misting settings and the option of light on/off which was an important factor in my purchase decision. I turn it on every night while I’m reading in bed and it absolutely make my nights just lovely.
Saje Essential Oils (Blend Set $54) – You can get essential oils from a wide variety of places and they have an infinite amount of uses, I buy the majority of mine from my regular health food store. But if you really want to spoil yourself or something else with some excellent quality blends, Saje is the way to go. This set is a great mix of some of their best scents.
Berkey Water Filter ($260) – This is one the best investments I’ve made, ever. No exaggerations. After tons of research, I decided that this is the best water filter money can buy and eliminates the need for plastic when it comes to water consumption. We love our Berkey almost as much as our dogs. It is a bit on the pricey side, but it definitely pays for itself in a few years if you’re using plastic water bottles or counter-top filters that require filter changes every few months.
For the Kitchen Lover
Vitamix ($400) – If you really want to make your health food lover’s year than a Vitamix would be my #1 recommendation. It has so many amazing functions and not a day goes by in our house that the Vitamix is not used.
Breville Immersion Blender ($77) – If you don’t have the space, or don’t want to drop that kind of cash for a Vitamix, than this immersion blender easily the next best thing. This makes blending extremely convenient and I often reach for this instead of my Vitamix because it’s smaller and is easy to clean. I use it primarily for making smoothies, sauces, and soups!
* Silpat (Set of 3 $17) – These are such lifesavers in the kitchen AND are a great way to reduce waste. Use these, instead of parchment paper or foil when using your baking sheets! They are sturdy and easy to clean!
* Multi-Function Cutting Board ($18) – This cutting board is SO simple yet clever. It’s sloped so juices and small food particles stay on the board rather than all over your counter. Plus the second side has a feature that makes it easy to carve meat if you’re into that kind of thing.
For the Environment Lover
*Cotton Produce Bags (Set of 6 $16) – In an effort to reduce waste, especially plastic, these have been the most helpful. I use them at the farmers market for produce and at the market for bulk goods like nuts. These, so far, are my favorite. I find they keep my produce fresher and they are easier to wash than the mesh bags. As an extra plus, the cotton is organic.
*Healthy Human Insulated Bottles ($24-29) – This is another great product to help go plastic-free, from a company that really care about the environment. I LOVE these bottles, they are the perfect size/shape, keep bevs hot or cold and come in a variety of cool colors. They also have these awesome on-the-go tumblers and stainless steel straw sets ($15). Use code FRESHLY10 at checkout (on Amazon) for 10% off any Healthy Human gear!
*Dryer Balls ($24) – These might be one of my favorite ways to reduce waste because it makes laundry just a wee bit easier. These balls basically replace single use dryer sheets. They act as fabric softeners and will actually help dry your laundry quicker. There are tons of different options on Amazon and I am pretty sure they will all act equally well. These are the ones that I use and love. Pro-tip: You can drop essential oil on these balls to add a nice smell to your laundry.
*Stasher Bags ($12-$24) – These bags are probably the coolest things to ever be invented. They are basically super sturdy silicone food bags to replace plastic bags, but you can freeze, sous vide, and microwave with these. Plus they are dishwasher safe! I cannot get enough of these, to the point that whenever someone asks me what I want as a gift, these are always my answer.
For the Fitness Enthusiasts
Fitbit ($150) – I was super skeptical about these fitness trackers. But I decided to get one when I started running so I could accurately track my progress. And now, well, I can’t recommend them enough. My Fitbit has made me so aware of how little I move throughout the day, outside of my works, and actually inspires me to get to stepping during the day. I like this Fitbit because it’s just enough watch to fitness tracker and I only have to charge it once a week.
Outdoor Voices (varies) – This is athlesuire wear at it’s best. Super stylish with ever revolving colors and everything is super comfortable.
For the Natural Beauty
Beauty Counter (varies) – What we put on our bodies is just as important as what we put in our bodies. The skin is the largest organism of the body and absorbs at least 64% of what we put on it. That’s why choose safe, chemical free, cosmetics and skin care products is SO important. This is a company that is concerned not only about the ingredients they use, but also the environment. They have a great holiday section with curated gift sets.
*Sweet Bee Magic ($14) – This stuff is just as advertised; magic. It’s an all natural salve that heals skin. I have been using this as a night cream to help with acne scars and I LOVE it.
For the Matcha Enthusiast
* Soar Organics ($24) – This is hands down my favorite matcha. The quality of the matcha is wonderful, organic, and comes straight from Japan. I find that the quality of matcha can be signified by a bright verdant green color, and this one is just that. Use code FRESHLY15 for 15% off.
*OG Matcha Whisk Set ($13) – If your matcha lover likes doing things the old fashioned way, this whisk set is everything they’ll need. Plus it’s super cute to boot!
* The Matcha Reserve Adaptogens (varies)- This brand has every kind of adaptogen and superfood powder you could want! I mix them into my matcha daily for the extra oomph, baked good, and smoothies. Everything is super reasonably priced and they have several organic options. If you are new to adaptogens, this is a great place to start. Use code FRESHLYDAFNA a for 30% off!
For the Book Worm
Kindle E-Reader ($80) – I love reading and while I also enjoy the feel of a worn paperback in my hands, the Kindle is one of the most useful gifts I’ve ever received. It’s invaluable when traveling and makes reading super thick books infinitely easier. I prefer this version of Kindle (that comes without the back light) because I believe we all look at lit screens way too much, it’s a possible strain on the eyes, and may interfere with our sleep cycles. There are lots of kindle covers available on Amazon that come with a little built in light that’s nice to have as an option.
Somnilight Amber Book Light ($30) – This little light is a great way to help improve sleep. The light, which attaches easily to books or e-readers, emits only amber light and no blue light, which can disrupt sleep. I personally find that I sleep much better when using this light. I’m also happy to say they have great customer service. Use this link for 10% off your entire purchase!
Where’d you go Bernadette ($11) – Of all the books I’ve read this year, this one was the most fun. It’s wonderfully written, smart, funny, and very relevant.
A Man Called Ov ($12) – After I finished reading this book I wanted to start over and read it again, it was that good. It’s a bittersweet tale that pulls at the heartstrings, but overall is very heartwarming and charming.
That’s it! Thanks for reading all the way down to here! I hope you have a wonderful holiday season filled with joy, laughter, tasty eats, and cheer!
And lastly I thought I’d end off with a little quote.
“When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.” – Maya Angelou
